Thursday fasting blood sugar was 115this morning. Had my yogurt took my meds, went back to bed. The littlle dog convinced me I needed to snuggle with him for just a while longer. Rotten dog ! Back up about 8 played on the computer for a while. Lazy today. We got ready to go to Wal Mart 2 loads of laundry. Lunch was a salmon patty and some cole slaw. Which should have been fine. Just not really hungry. Felt funky blood sugar 45 minutes after lunch was 92 had a square of chocolate. Off to Wally World. Found a cereal bar lower in carbs, higher in fiber special k of all things. The Activia yogurt light of course had fewer carbs. Love that stuff anyway. The vanilla is killer. So will tyr some new things. Also found some sugar free instant oatmeal lower in carbs apple and cinnamon. Got some unsweetened almond milk. Almost no carbs there it will be great for smoothies and maybe for pudding ? Gonna give it a try anyway, should also work on the oatmeal not adding any more carbs. Blood sugar before supper was 88 had part of a chicken tender while I cooked. Ha ha Alex had part of it too. We had breakfast for supper sausage grits eggs toast. Well I had a spoon or so of grits, and we had omeletes Mother had hers with just cheese ours had cheese and spinach. Had to get some green stuff in there somehow. Made some chicken salad have found that having that or tuna salad in the fridge makes life easier you can have a meal or a snack in a hurry few sticks of celery and your all set . Like to add plenty of veggies in my salads, onions celery apples in the chicken salad pickles in the tuna salad and some pecans sometimes. have a nice scoop in half an avacado ! YUM or with some nice lettuce. Well I am going to go for now need to test one more time before bed. Want to know if I can have a snack or not ha ha ha

3/30/11 Wednesday night
Think I said my Blood sugar was 108 this morning. Had my yogurt had a protien bar about 10: ran out and got mother some meds. Then I cleaned up in the garage for a couple of hours. Picking up and moving hauling trash sweeping. No where near done but it took more than one day to get like that. Guess it will take a while to get it all cleaned out. My blood sugar at 1:00 was 100 had a snack few leaves of lettuce and some salmon moose. Poked around here in the house played on the computer cooked. We had a chicken and broccoli casserole for supper. It was good ! Made Mother and Larry some rice to eat with thiers and we had a nice green salad. I had a kuerig chai latte while it was cooking those are 10 carbs so it was a splurge ! once in a while you have to do that. Blood sugar at 8:00 p.m. was 90 had some almonds and celery with peanut butter and raisins ants on a log ha ha will have that square of chocolate before I go to bed and start over in the morning. Hope we get some sunshine. The rain is nice and much needed but the dreary is hard to take for any length of time.

So I missed yesterday there was a big storm and we all went to bed early. Slept like a stone too which is a switch for me. Fasting blood sugar yesterday morning was 108 Had my light yogurt. worked at Richards all morning. He was not around had the house all to myself and was able to just get it done. had a protien bar for lunch about 11 with a cup of coffee got home about 1 and my blood sugar was 93 so I made a snack that cream cheese moose with salmon. Mother came in and shared ! It was pretty good She surprises me sometimes she really likes hummus. That amazed me and wasabi peas she loves those. So I had the moose with some celery sticks. And a fudge bar one of those Blue Bunny sugar free ones. They are not bad and there is enough chocolate flavor to kill a craving. We had salmon patties for supper. We call them fish cookies ha ha mac and cheese pickled beets asparagus and summer squash. I had one cookie and a couple spoons of mac and cheese small spoons not serving spoons. And the beets I had been afraid to eat those thinking they would be higher in carbs and sugar but not as bad as I thought about 5 carbs per serving. My blood sugar at 8:15 was 104 had my almonds and a square of chocolate.

1 Tbsp lemon juice
½ tsp ground black pepper
6 celery sticks, rinsed, with ends cut off
1 Tbsp chopped walnuts
1/4 cup cream cheese

3/28/11 Monday Monday
Fasting blood sugar was 113 this morning. Took Larry to work had my yogurt and took my meds, got my butt in gear and went to the hospital for diabetes education. It was interesting. The dietician is a riot. We learned to take care of our feet because we loose sensation in them. Have to watch carefully. Wieghed in... 241.8 so I dropped another 5 pounds. Not that I feel like it. There will be 2 more of these classes and you can continue to work one on one with the folks for the next year or so. Or at least that was my understanding. Lynn could have gone with me,which sucks we could have spent the time together. Guess I will go out to her house on Wednesday she has a new computer and is dying for some help getting on he internet. Got out of diabetes ed about noon, home about 12:45 I had spaghetti for lunch the left over squash with spaghetti sauce.. OMG it was good ! Ran the vacum and swept the floors chased the dogs.. Chased the dogs out of the herb beds mostly.. ha ha Had a little nap slept through Dr Phil.. Blood sugar was 99 at 4:15 we had chili for supper. Not sure if it was beef or venison. But it was lean.. Larry says it was venison. I had some chees and sour cream with mine. No chips though. Mother makes it with lots of onions and tomato juice plenty of real garlic so it is a meal in and of itself. Great stuff ! Not much going this evening messing with this computer long conversation with my ex sister in law. She is such a nice lady. Have to take Larry to work in the morning working at Richards ye ha ! It is cool working over there. Even if it is work. Got to run need to go to bed. talk tomorrow !

Fasting Blood sugar was 131 YIKES dont know what I did wrong. Ate to much last night ? or to much of the wrong stuff I did eat some blueberries and grapes. Then I had one of the Blue Bunny fudge pops. So I did better today had my yogurt for breakfast. We went off to church had a great time, Mother has found her church home and Larry and I are likely to join her. It was nice and the preacher is a hoot talking about having a goat named nicademus Well any one that has goats is pretty much ok :)Came home and got some lunch had a green salad with some tuna salad, and blue cheese few celery sticks with hummus. Blood sugar was 107 before lunch and did you know that chewing gum even sugar free chewing gum has carbs ? I did not know that it has 2 carbs per stick. And I chewed several yesterday. Went to Wal Mart and got another meter. Their brand was the best way to go. So I will have one in my purse and one here at the house. Never get caught without that way. The one from Target is ok too I got to go back out there and get some more strips. So I am all set. We ate late tonight had a piece of grilled chicken, and a piece of salmon some brocolli with garlic sauce, and cole slaw. had a spoon or so of potato salad.

Saturday 3/26/11
Rest of the day had to fix a boo boo over at Frans house I pulled loose the flowerbed lights. Larry got it no problem. We went out to Target and I got one of the California chicken salads that I like. He got a new guitar strap. We finally found some of that Kalhua coffee it is really good ! Thanks Charlis ! Blood sugar was 100 before supper. We had some grilled sausage, green salad, and squash with onions. It was good sausage was salty though. And guess what someone at Blue Bunny loves me. I found some sugar free fudge bars. 6 grams of carbs per bar. So it is something I can have sometimes. Love those when it is hot. Had some nuts this evening and one of the fudge bars. Wonder if I could put diet hot chocolate in the blender with ice.... and have a chocolate smoothie. Ill have to try that. Got to run for now Church in the morning. We need to get back in the habit !

So I missed last night, my fasting blood sugar was 107 yesterday morning had my yogurt. Darnk coffee all morning with Lar while we waited on a call from Richard. So we hauled some pine straw and mowed his girlfreinds yard. Yeah I mowed while Larry went to get the pine straw. We did a little weed eating and blew al the debris off. Then unloaded pine straw at Richards and Larry turned on the sprinkler system. I had a package of nuts and a square of chocolate before mowing. Got home about 1 had lunch blood sugar was 99. Had Tuna salad romaine lettuce and some cabbage. Blue cheese crumbles and balsamic dressing. Handful of blueberries. Then we were off to buy plants got some habenero peppers, and I got some herbs. Came home and planted most of them so I worked out in the yard planting and weeding hauling cow manure.. had a great time. Got so dirty though that there was dirt between my toes got there through my shoes and socks. ha ha ha

3/24/11
Fasting blood sugar was 107 this morning. And that was after a snack fest last night. Larry and I ate almonds and strawberries, I had a square of chocolate and then we had sugar free jello.. Rough night did not sleep well. Think I will have a benydryl tonight one of those will do the trick. ha ha Hard time getting started this morning.. Made some hummus and some tuna salad both are handy to have in the fridge. And much to my surprise Mother loves hummus. Plenty of garlic in it too. Had some tuna salad for luch with lettuce, and balsamic dressing. Also had a boiled egg. We went out to buy coffee for the Kuerig Bed Bath and Beyond had sent me a five dollar coupon so that worked ! We went on over to Sam's club got some cole slaw and some broccoli. Looks like we will be mowing Frans yard tomorrow and hauling some pine straw for Richard..little extra money that will be nice but giving up a Friday ... Hmmmm Blood sugar before supper and it was about 7 P.M. was 92 yes 92 Low as it has been since Ive been tracking it. We had boiled shrimp I had califlower, and brussel sprouts half an avacado with balsamic dressing. Stuffed Larry had a no shrimp left behind program and ate we ate them all plenty of corn and potatoes in the fridge though..
Got to run looks like I am doing well with this dont know about any wieght loss but the sugar is renmaining in control and I feel a whole lot better these last few days.

Fasting blood sugar was 111 this morning. Thats good. Trucking with Mother. Had to put her car in the shop so I went down and picked her up, we got some gas and later went to Wal Mart. We love Wal Mart ! Came home and had a glass of tea thought it was diet tea WRONG blood sugar was 129 before lunch. Worked in the yard all afternoon got everything mowed and trimmed and weed eated. Then had a chocolate and a nap in the chair. Blood sugar at 5:30 before supper was 105 had a pork chop, spaghetti squash cabbage and cauliflower. And a few strawberries. Ate like a pig too ! everything was good and for some reason I was hungry. ha ha ha quiet evening watched Survivor ! Signing out almost ready for bed.

Fasting blood sugar 112 had yogurt for breakfast and went back to bed. Did not sleep much last night. Could not shut off my brain.. You would not think that would happen to me but it does. Out in the yard nad planted the rest of our plants couple of peppers some begonias and an impatiens.. Love those shade plants have one whole bed that gets very little sun. Roses are blooming in the front going to be a good year for them. Blood sugar at 11:30 was 100 had meatloaf and cottage cheese for lunch. Back out the door gave the little dog a hair cut. and a bath then went out shopping with Mother. I found a couple of pots and a bird house. Some squash seeds need another big pot to plant them in. Had a smoothie when we came in. Then a nap in the chair just fell asleep. Blood sugar was 122 before supper. So it was up some should have gone back out and worked some more. Still need to clean the garage. :) Had a spaghetti salad for supper. You know it was pretty good. Spaghetti sauce full of veggies, and fresh garlic, served over a bed of lettuce... Might be great with shredded cabbage under or maybe some shreds of zuccini ? There is some kind of a tofu noodle I have been reading about has almost no carbs. Shiri something cant remember just this minute . But it might be worth looking into. As long as it is not a highly processed substitute for pasta. They are preaching the protien powder and whey but my thinking is that it would be better to just stick to regular food. Not so much processed stuff thats where you get into trouble. Ice cream now that is where I get into trouble... Well need to sign out for now. It has been a good day felt better about the numbers this morning nad this afternoon.

Fasting blood sugar 124 this morning. Same as yesterday. Had the yogurt thats just the easiest way to go and the meds are begining to not make me so sick. SO it is all kind of falling into place. Had a square of chocolate about 10:30 before going to the memorial service. Good thing it was well after 12 when we got back. Had meatloaf for lunch and asparagus and strawberries. Blood sugar at 6 was 100 but had been busy cleaned the carpet and mopped the floors. Went to the store with Larry's mom then took a nap in the chair. ha ha going to the store can wear you out not to mention the sticker shock when you get there. Signing out for now. Not working for Richard tomorrow will have to find something around here to do . But the garage needs cleaned the yard needs mowed there is weedeating and chainsawing to so and flowers to plant so needless to say I can find something to keep me busy.

Sunday Sunday fasting blood sugar was 124 this morning. Had the light yogurt for breakfast. It has some carbs, about 20 but just dont want to give it up. They say that yogurt helps with blood sugar anyway that it burns carbs trying to digest it. We had company this afternoon Larry grilled some salmon on the cedar planks. He also fried a few fish and some potatoes, he and his mom love a fish fry. I used to but the grilled salmon with herb butter OMG also had asparagus and a green salad. Dont feel like I am missing out on anything. Worked in the garden a litrtle the collard greens have done thier due and needed to be pulled out. They have been great though ! Had green salad chicken salad and cottage cheese for supper, have not taken the blood sugar again today. Guess Ill do it in the morning and get back on track. Memorial service for Peggy in the morning.

Fasting blood sugar this morning was 110 that is really good right on the money.If it would be like that every morning. Light yogurt for breakfast. Had slept late this morning sometimes that is just the way it is. Piddled on the computer for a while. Then out to mow the yard. Had some plants to put in Mother had gotten some marigolds, and some coleus. Had to go to the Wal Mart and get some cow manure and some plants. All these empty buckets. Tomato plants ! Have you tried to buy a tomato ? 3 dollars a pound.! And the same for squash and zuccini . So Im planning to plant a few and see what happens ! I know we will get at least a few tomatoes anyway ! Had to go back to Wal Mart in Monroe West Monroe had no cow manure... Can you imagine ? 480 pounds of it so tehr is plenty of shit around here ! Had a little piece of sausage and a pickled egg. Had to get an Atkins bar while at Wal Mart. Have to do better at planning. Not used to thinking ahead what if your out nad there is no place to get anything ? And your out later than you thought you would be. Be to easy to grab a bag of chips or something.. To much temptation just because it is there and it is quick. Will have to carry around some Peanut butter crackers, or something. Worked in the yard all afternoon hauling manure and putting in plants got most of them in. Blood sugar 134 before supper this evening guess the Atkins bar did me in. :( Well you live and learn. Had some chicken salad, with celery sticks, and strawberries for supper. Been a long day think I will sleep tonight. Had a nibble of dark chocolate.. 3of those little squares bout 9 carbs. Which is sort of a splurge because it is not as healthy as say 9 carbs of spinach. Frozen strawberry lemonade
This is a great treat the only carbs are from the starwberries.
2 1/2 cups crushed ice (or cubes they just take longer to process )
2 lemons
6 or 8 strawberries
Splenda to taste 1/4 cup to start add more if you like it sweeter.
Peel the lemons, and get as much of the white pith off as you can cut them in half drop them in the blender with the other ingredients and enough water to make it run. Blend until smooth this makes about 3 servings very low in carbs and good for you !

Fasting blood sugar was 133 this morning. Had cottage cheese for breakfast. Drs appointment this morning. Makes me nervous. Lynn went with me. Now I wiegh in at a whopping 246 pounds 12 ounces. So I have lost 5 pounds in the last 2 weeks the Dewey diet seems to be working.We had the doctor almost in tears I told her it scared me her just turning me loose with no education. She said the meds were important to get those started, that the blood sugar was so high that at that point testing would not be an issue. And she tells me Im a worry wort that the stress of all the information at one time would have really upset me. Well I respect her opinion. And thank God I had Lynn. !
:) Larry and I drove out to Lynns to take the tiller. Stopped and ate chinese food for lunch. This used to be a great treat, something I really lookd forward to love the sushi.. But not so much today I had some shrimp and veggies. And a piece of salmon. Snitched one piece of Larry's sushi but nothing really appealed to me today or at least this afternoon. Dropped off the tiller and got to use my chain saw.. Love that thing Think Lynn is going to get herself one it is really handy not to big nad unwieldy you can use it out of the canoe or off the garage roof. Even on a ladder so it is great ! Went on up to the country checked on things there at the house. And we drowned some crickets I caught 5 fish and Lar caught a couple. had a good time and today we practiced catch and release. Cause with only a few there was not much point in cleaning them. Had a nice ride home. A bleach bath ( the bug repellent didn't really work ) and leftovers for supper. Sugar free of course but would that be great or what ? Chocolate chewing gum... Strawberry cheesecake you would get that little taste of sweet without the guilt or the carbs.

Fasting blood sugar was 133 this morning. Had a smoothie for breakfast. Then the little dog convinced me I needed to go back to bed, dreary cloudy this morning. Begin to think I am solar powered... Function better in the daylight. Out with Lynn this afternoon we had lunch at Target which does not sound like a great idea but it is. They have this California chicken salad 4 bucks it has romaine lettuce, walnuts ,grilled chicken, dried cherries, goat cheese and poppy seed dressing on the side... I love this ! Lynn really liked it too. Went shopping for a while I needed some testing strips. And she had gotten the first ones there at Target. We found some great dark chocolate. 4 squares are 23 carbs Of course I would not sit and eat 4 squares, so thats about 6 carbs per square. So if there should be a chocolate emergency we are all set. We went to the dollar store and then to Wal Mart yeah Wal Mart ! Got home about 3 and sort of lazed around. Blood sugar before supper was 111 thats pretty good. Had a hamburger no bun of course, topped with pico de gallo some cole slaw, and the last little bit of the broccoli salad. Then a hot Italian sausage with grilled onions. Larry out did himself and I was a pig ! Doctors appointment in the morning. So Ill sign off till then !

Starting out Am going to type out here my little notes from the last 2 weeks. A food diary, blood sugar readings ect. Then we will go day by day :)
Starting out let me say, I am 47 years old that wont change with diet and exercise ha ha And am ashamed to admit I wiegh in at 252 pounds and 4 ounces. YIKES ! It has never bothered me being fat bothers everybody else. Dont you hate it when you run into people and they ask you if you have lost wieght ? And you think to yourself nope your memory is just fatter than I am. My A1C was 12 they tell me that means that the average blood sugar would have been 298 for the last 3 months. It was 248 when Lynn took it the morning after I was diagnosed.
My diary of sorts begins 3/4/2011 4:00 P.M.
Lynn brought me a blood sugar monitor. The doctor has not written me a perscription for one. she seems reluctant to do this. So we get the monitor set up. Lynn taught me how to use it, Blood sugar was 168 Had eaten cottage cheese for breakfast, Tuna salad and a few strawberries for lunch, had some peanuts and a handful of almonds for a snack... neglected to say what supper was that night.

had a banana for breakfast, lunch was chicken salad lettuce and some cheese. had a snack of celery with peanut butter and raisins. had some jello and sugar free cool whip. And supper was a pork chop and some collard greens. Did not do a blood sugar test today. This was before Lynn brought the monitor.

Cottage cheese for breakfast, had collard greens and a pickled egg for lunch. Remember this day felt like crap these meds cause gastric distress. Nausea and diarheia ( cannot spell to lazy to look it up ) Had gone to Wal Mart with my mother in law, and we had to cut our shopping short. Had light yogurt some almonds and peanuts for a snack. Blood sugar was 173 before supper, which was grilled chicken fajita salad. Sounds pretty high but it is coming down....

looks like I lost a day Fasting Blood sugar was 192 had a rough night no sleep bad headache.Cottage cheese for breakfast. Had almonds at 10 a.m. Lunch was a hamburger w/blue cheese salad w/avacado and balsamic dressing. 5p.m. before supper 138 worked in the yard all afternoon. Minute steak w/ peppers& onions mashed cauliflower, cabbage for supper. Had a few pork rinds and some almonds before bed.

Fasting blood sugar 169 Light yogurt for breakfast went to Lynns house, we worked around her place for a while. Lunch was Tuna steak, spaghetti squash, brussel sprouts, asparagus, and collard greens. Blood sugar was 126 before supper Broccoli soup.. 2 bowls it was GOOD and some cheese. Snack later of celery w/peanut butter and a few raisins.

Fasting blood sugar was 139 had Boost meal replacement for breakfast could not face anything to eat. Blood sugar 136 at 1:30 no lunch yet 3 sausages, and 3 peanut butter crackers. Worked hard in Richards yard. Felt like crap got weak and sweaty. Could be I was standing on my head pulling weeds. Had celery with peanut butter and raisins few strawberries. Supper was raw broccoli with bleu cheese dressing, and I was hungry ! Sauteed catfish and scallops and coleslaw... sneaked a french fry well I can live without them.

Fasting blood sugar 133 it is coming down ! Broccoli soup for breakfast. Odd choice but it worked for me. We drove over to Shreveport today stopped in Ruston to have lunch at Wendys Blood sugar was 95 yep I was so excited I called Lynn, of course that is a little low. Had a spicy chicken ceasar salad and a diet coke. The chicken was fried instead of grilled guess I did not pay attention. Ate it anyway, had a great shopping trip in Arcadia then on to Bossier to visit Dan. Supper was grilled chicken ceasar salad. I know I know same thing I had for lunch. But it worked for me.

Sunday morning fasting blood sugar 146 worked in the yard a little light yogurt for breakfast. Dont remember what lunch was, Larry ate jelly donuts ! Blood sugar 121 before lunch. Canoed and fished all afternoon had a great time caught 2 nice white perch.. Thought I have enough to feed mamaw.. then they just quit biting. No snacks, blood sugar was 148 before supper raw broccoli with blue cheese dressing, sausage and eggs. 1/2 a pickled egg. Almonds before bed.

Fasting blood sugar 127 light yogurt for breakfast, blood sugar before lunch was 115 had a hamburger and cole slaw and cottage cheese. Bad girl 2 or 3 spoons full of apple pie filling. Just could not resist. Was making turnovers for Larry and his mom. And I licked the mashed potatoes off my finger. We had meatloaf not the no carb kind and I ate a piece of that. Mashed cauliflower broccoli salad and asparagus. My blood sugar at 8:30 was 118 maybe I was not to bad huh >? Ate everthing that evening was hungry, jello and cool whip almonds peanuts and 3 peanut butter crackers.

Blood sugar before lunch was 111 ate asparagus broccoli salad and mashed cauliflower, working at Richards. That helps burn up some sugar. Snack was piece of roast beef and some broccoli salad had salad with a piece of roast for supper jello cottage cheese and a few strawberries. Almonds before bed.

Fasting blood sugar was 122 light yogurt for breakfast, 10:30 blood sugar was 95 had celery with peanut butter & rasins, had a package of peanuts. Out shopping for plants and then to Wal mart. Had a smoothie when we got back then out to work in the yard all afternoon. Taco salad for supper I was hungry ! Almonds before bed.
Starting out let me say, I am 47 years old that wont change with diet and exercise ha ha And am ashamed to admit I wiegh in at 252 pounds and 4 ounces. YIKES ! It has never bothered me being fat bothers everybody else. Dont you hate it when you run into people and they ask you if you have lost wieght ? And you think to yourself nope your memory is just fatter than I am. My A1C was 12 they tell me that means that the average blood sugar would have been 298 for the last 3 months. It was 248 when Lynn took it the morning after I was diagnosed.
My diary of sorts begins 3/4/2011 4:00 P.M.
Lynn brought me a blood sugar monitor. The doctor has not written me a perscription for one. she seems reluctant to do this. So we get the monitor set up. Lynn taught me how to use it, Blood sugar was 168 Had eaten cottage cheese for breakfast, Tuna salad and a few strawberries for lunch, had some peanuts and a handful of almonds for a snack... neglected to say what supper was that night.

congratulations I have diabetes
So here I am. Never blogged before but it seemed like a good idea. 2 weeks ago yesterday I went to the doctor, and she told me I am a diabetic. That was a shock ! No symptoms no indications but the A1C does not lie. So she gave me a couple of perscriptions a pnemonia shot and sent me home. No education no blood sugar monitor. Just take these meds.. They will make you sick, but your smart figure it out. So I wonder if I might need to look into getting another doctor ? I was lucky my dear friend Lynn has been a diabetic for many years now, and she really helped me out loaned me some books explained a lot of things. I got signed up with Abbot labs they have a program for free diabetes education over the phone. You can call and ask questions.
I was scared to death. Afraid to eat anything what on earth was I going to do ? Im 47 years old and wondered if I would be able to go on and live a normal life. That fear is passing, we decided that the diet my brother in law uses would be best. We call it the Dewey diet he has done very well with it and has his blood sugar under control. Basically it is no carbs, or at least very few. You can eat anything green :) that made me happy. No bread no rice no potatoes no sugar and the less processed food the better. Nothing fried which is killer because my mother in law and my husband LOVE fried fish,nothing better in the South than a good old fish fry huh ? Well we are working this out and I plan to go on and post my progress here got to keep myself straight and on track.
